Best In Black Beauty Awards 2026: Beauty After 50

This year’s specialty category is putting a spotlight on the beauty in aging. Our guest editor and ESSENCE Beauty Awards 2026 model Coco Mitchell, known for her work with Christopher John Rogers, ESSENCE, Dior, Prada, and more, shares some of her top tips below.

Coco Mitchell’s Beauty Approach:

“My hair, skin and body products are all natural. I use Organic olive oil, organic castor oil and organic sesame oil. Lymphatic facial massage is a must everyday. A Thai full body massage twice per month is a must along with a non-toxic manicure and pedicure. My favorite fragrances are in the form of essential oils—Frankincense and Palo Santo.”

On When She Feels Most Beautiful:

“I feel most beautiful and confident when I’m around my friends and family. They understand that being a model is what I do for a living and not who I am.”

On The Beauty Of Aging:

“The beauty of aging is the respect I get everywhere I go, especially from women when they see the grey hair. I feel like I give them the green light to age. What an honor!”

The Doctor Is In

Renowned dermatologist Rosemarie Ingleton, MD, offers some wise words about aging.

After 50, skin naturally becomes drier, thinner, and more prone to uneven tone and loss of elasticity, so your regimen and habits should evolve along with your skin. As a mother of two adult sons and the primary care facilitator for my centenarian mother, I personally view aging as a gift. And with that privilege comes the importance of caring for ourselves—including our skin. I believe in giving skin the support it needs at every stage of life, and I encourage others to do the same.

Choose science-backed skincare that addresses your specific concerns. Ensure proper use within your routine, on a consistent basis. Prioritize SPF protection every morning. Address lifestyle factors that can contribute to premature aging. Approach advanced treatments thoughtfully and under the guidance of a licensed physician.”
